With the new amnesty law set to take effect on July 15, approximately 60 inmates at the Drenova correctional facility are expected to be released.
Parliament approved the penal amnesty measure in the plenary session on June 18, with 84 votes in favor and none against or abstaining. Justice Minister Toni Gogu announced that as a result of this decision, a total of 466 individuals will be granted freedom. He specified that the group includes 11 women and 1 minor.

The senior official also informed that another 869 convicted persons will have their sentences reduced. He stressed that supervision of the law’s implementation is being carried out by competent authorities, strictly following the criteria established in the relevant legislation.
Benefits under this amnesty include sentence reductions of 1 year for men and 1.5 years for women. However, the law explicitly excludes from these benefits those under investigation by SPAK, as well as all individuals convicted of offenses deemed extremely serious.
