In a statement to the media, Hykolli said that exercising the right to protest must go hand in hand with maintaining public safety and mutual respect.
“Kosovo’s freedom was achieved through the KLA’s war, the sacrifice of the people and the support of our allies,” the BSPK statement said.
According to Hykolli, honoring the values of the liberation war also requires respect for institutions, the dignity of citizens and the safety of police officers.
“The women and men of the Kosovo Police are our daughters and sons; they are there for us and for the country. When they protect institutions in the performance of their legal duty, they also protect the achievements of freedom and the legacy of those who gave their lives for it,” Hykolli said.
He called on protesters to avoid provoking members of the Kosovo Police and to allow them to carry out their duties with dignity.
The BSPK said it would not support any act of violence, threat or damage against members of the Kosovo Police, describing such behavior as unacceptable.
Hykolli stressed that organizers and participants have a responsibility to keep the protests peaceful and to clearly express their demands. According to him, respect for the state of Kosovo strengthens the protection of KLA values politically and increases its public credibility.
