Hoti criticizes institutional deadlock: 120 MPs are paid without doing any work

Avdullah Hoti, an LDK-elected MP, has reacted to the political situation and the paralysis of Kosovo’s institutions. He emphasized that the new legislators are receiving salaries even though they are not carrying out the duty for which they were elected.

According to Hoti, at the end of August, all 120 sworn-in MPs of the Kosovo Assembly are expected to be paid, even though so far they have done “absolutely nothing.”

In a Facebook post, Hoti stated that the result of the June elections leaves no room for ambiguity: the party that came first, with the support of some MPs from non-majority communities, has the ability to constitute the Assembly and form the government.

He said that once the institutions became functional, political parties would be able to begin negotiations on the election of the president, while respecting the 60-day constitutional deadline.

Hoti said that the weeks of August and the month of September could be used to address specific and urgent issues. Among them, he listed the review of this year’s budget, which, he said, has been damaged and turned into a mess by the arbitrary decisions of the caretaker government; the ratification of international agreements to prevent the loss of funds, particularly EU funds from the Western Balkans Growth Plan; and parliamentary oversight of the government by the opposition. In this context, he called for an urgent review of the Auditor General’s reports, stressing that they had not even been addressed for 2024.

Hoti attributed responsibility for obstructing the functioning of the institutions to the Vetëvendosje Movement, Kurti, and all those who, in any way, are helping to prolong the blockade of the country’s two highest institutions.
