The heatwave has increased the number of citizens seeking assistance from emergency medical teams. Daniell Georgievski of the Emergency Medical Service said that more than 200 calls are received every day, involving both interventions in public places due to people collapsing and cases in which citizens’ health deteriorates at home.

Georgievski said that emergency medical teams typically treat between three and five cases of people collapsing each day, while this figure may rise during periods of high temperatures.
According to Georgievski, weakness, nausea, overheating and heatstroke are the symptoms for which citizens most frequently seek emergency medical assistance.
He emphasized that in some cases, a patient’s condition can be stabilized through appropriate advice and a timely response. People with chronic illnesses, in particular, should exercise increased caution, as high temperatures may cause further health complications.
