The tragic incident occurred in February 2025, when two people forced their way into Cahalane’s home in Plymouth and doused his body with sulfuric acid. Despite immediate medical intervention, the father of two did not survive his severe injuries and died on May 3, 2025.

A total of nine defendants were involved in the trial, but the victim’s ex-wife was identified as the central figure in orchestrating the crime. Prosecutors demonstrated that Wilson had disclosed Cahalane’s location to a Dubai-based drug gang leader known by the alias “Frost.” He was seeking repayment of a debt of around £120,000 that Cahalane had accumulated through gambling.

According to the prosecution, Wilson’s motives were a mixture of greed and revenge, and she cooperated with the criminal group in exchange for financial gain. One shocking detail to emerge from the investigation was a threatening message she sent to the victim shortly before the attack, which read: “I hope you and your girlfriend end up with acid in your faces.”

The court was also shown a series of conversations between Wilson and her mother discussing the amounts she would receive if she helped the gang locate Cahalane. Initial plans for a kidnapping failed, after which the gang’s leaders ordered the deadly acid attack.

The two people who threw the corrosive substance over the victim were found guilty of murder, while the remaining defendants received sentences for their involvement in the preparatory stages of the crime. In his ruling, the judge described Wilson as a “key participant,” stressing that she was fully aware of the danger facing her ex-husband but chose to assist the perpetrators.

Although she was initially charged with murder, Wilson was ultimately found guilty of manslaughter. During the final hearing, she expressed regret over the consequences of her actions, saying she felt deeply remorseful over the loss of her former partner’s life.
