According to Haxhiu, the victims were Albanians from Skenderaj and Mitrovica who were part of the group known as the “Group of Intellectuals.” They were abducted by Serbian forces on April 19, 1999.
In her post, Haxhiu said the families spent 27 years without knowing the whereabouts of their loved ones. Their wait has now ended, although the pain remains. She expressed her condolences and said her thoughts were also with the other families awaiting the results of excavations in the coming weeks.
Haxhiu stressed that the search would continue until the last forcibly disappeared person is found and those responsible are brought to justice.
