Acting President Albulena Haxhiu said that holding extraordinary elections would be unacceptable given the situation in Kosovo, particularly following the decision of the Special Court in The Hague.

According to her, after September 16, political parties should not take steps that could lead the country toward elections.

Haxhiu made the comments after attending the conference “Partnership for Change: Women Transforming Systems – Advancing the Principles of Pristina 2026–2035,” organized by the Jahjaga Foundation.

She called on all political parties to stop their efforts to send Kosovo to elections.

“I hope that all political parties will abandon their efforts to send the country to elections. In the circumstances we find ourselves in, especially after September 16, such an action should not even cross anyone’s mind, as it is neither in the interest of citizens nor of Kosovo,” she said.

Haxhiu said she expects the Assembly to manage to propose a candidate for president by October 6.

“As speaker of the Assembly and acting president, I expect the meetings to continue. During the few days remaining until October 6, it is essential for the Assembly of Kosovo to have a candidate for president. I expect discussions to continue and efforts to be made to elect the president,” Haxhiu declared.
