Haradinaj links Kosovo’s security to KLA’s sacrifice and alliance with US and NATO

Speaking on matters outside the agenda at today’s Assembly session, Alliance MP Ramush Haradinaj described the sacrifice of the Kosovo Liberation Army and the alliance with the United States of America and NATO as sources of Kosovo’s national security.

According to Haradinaj, the foundations of that security are the sacrifices made for liberation and the KLA, without which, he said, Kosovo would not enjoy freedom.

He warned that failing to defend the KLA, whatever the reason, puts national security, freedom and sovereignty at risk. In his view, failing to defend the values on which the state of Kosovo rests undermines all three.

The MP also called for the Constitution and laws to be upheld, stressing that Kosovo must fulfil its responsibilities to avoid jeopardising national security. He added that enemies would always fail if the country carried out its duties.

Expressing his support for the KLA and its leaders, Haradinaj welcomed any initiative in that direction, regardless of when it is undertaken. He said that even belated support is better than none, and that even a little support is worth more than no support at all.

Concluding his remarks, Haradinaj addressed the opposition’s role in democratic life. He stressed that a genuine opposition also helps protect freedom, while the absence of a true opposition, he said, marks the death of democracy.
