Kosovo’s accession to NATO would definitively seal regional security

The commitment to security in Kosovo and the partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance were the main topics discussed during the visit of American Admiral George M. Wikoff, commander of NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command in Naples. He held separate meetings with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the leader of AAK, Ramush Haradinaj.

The Allied Joint Force Command, headquartered in Lago Patria near Naples, is a key operational structure of NATO, responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing military missions in an area stretching from the Mediterranean to the Balkans. KFOR, the Alliance’s contingent that guarantees Kosovo’s security, also operates in this area.

In Pristina, Kurti welcomed Admiral Wikoff in his office, where KFOR commander Major General Özkan Ulutaş also participated. Through a Facebook post, he expressed gratitude for NATO’s unwavering commitment to a peaceful and safe environment for all citizens and communities. “We discussed with Admiral Wikoff the security situation and the cooperation between our institutions and NATO,” Kurti wrote, highlighting the ongoing contribution to sustainable peace and long-term stability in Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans.

Meanwhile, Haradinaj received the American admiral in Deçan, at an event hosted by the mayor of the municipality, Bashkim Ramosaj. He stressed that Kosovo’s swift NATO membership would definitively seal the region’s security. Haradinaj thanked the guest for his dedication and the continuous support that the Alliance provides to the country.

“We expressed gratitude for Admiral Wikoff’s personal commitment and for the uninterrupted assistance that he and NATO forces provide in preserving security and stability in our country,” Haradinaj said. According to him, the bond with the United States and NATO remains the fundamental pillar for Kosovo. “Our freedom represents the supreme value that we won together with our allies, led by the USA and NATO countries. The alliance with them is eternal, as is our goal to join this family,” Haradinaj concluded.
