Haradinaj honors the fallen of Gllogjan and Hereq: The memory of those who died for freedom will be eternal

Ramush Haradinaj paid tribute in Gllogjan and Hereq in remembrance of the national heroes Sokol Sejfijaj, Din Alijaj, Muhamet Zenunaj and Asllan Rexhepaj.

During the ceremony, the former head of the Alliance recalled the events of August 1998, when clashes with the Serbian army were particularly fierce. He stressed that remembering the fallen must also be accompanied by an awareness of the sacrifice behind Kosovo’s freedom.

Haradinaj said that the four fallen heroes gave their lives on the altar of freedom on August 10, 1998, and that, despite losing capable comrades-in-arms, the Kosovo Liberation Army’s war continued until the country was liberated.

He underlined that Kosovo’s liberation war brought about an alliance with NATO, led by America, while the sacrifice of KLA fighters and the contribution of generations over the years to the homeland made the independent state possible.

“Today we came together in Gllogjan and Hereq to honor the national heroes Sokol Sejfijaj, Din Alijaj, Muhamet Zenunaj and Asllan Rexhepaj, who fell on August 10, 1998, on the altar of freedom.

August 1998 was marked by fierce fighting with the genocidal Serbian army. In those clashes, we lost some of our most capable comrades-in-arms, but we did not surrender and continued the war until the liberation of the homeland.

As we bow before the fallen of our liberation war, we must also remember the high cost of the freedom we enjoy today. It was precisely our liberation war that brought us an alliance with NATO, led by America. Thanks to the sacrifice of KLA fighters and the generations that contributed to the homeland over the years, today we have an independent state.
