A serious incident has shaken Aarau, Switzerland, where gunshots were heard during an electronic music party near the racetrack in the Schachen area, in the canton of Aargau.

Canton police, quoted by Swiss broadcaster SRF, said that one person had died, while five others had been seriously injured.
In its initial statement, the authorities spoke of “several victims” and urged residents to stay away from the area where the incident took place. Witnesses were also asked to submit any photographs or videos that could be useful to the investigation.
Witness: Gunshots mistaken for fireworks
One partygoer described the moments of panic that followed to Swiss media.
“At around 02:30, the music suddenly stopped and, after a minute or two, I heard the gunshots. I thought they were fireworks and did not pay attention,” he said.
He said that shortly afterward, a man, together with a woman, told him to take cover behind a refrigerator. At first, he did not understand what was happening, but then he heard a bullet strike the roof of the tent.
When he went outside, the witness saw the woman injured. He and other people tried to help her, but she died from her injuries.
Some people who were at the party said they saw an individual with an assault rifle. According to them, he fled toward the forest, near the parked vehicles, and then entered the woods.
Search for suspect continues
The suspect in the shooting has not yet been apprehended. Police are continuing the search operation, while the motive and exact circumstances of the attack have not yet been made public.
Aargau cantonal police forces have carried out a large-scale operation in the area. The area around the racetrack, swimming pool and sports field where the party was being held has been closed to the public.
The authorities are continuing their investigation to reconstruct the full sequence of events and identify the perpetrator of the attack.
