Kosovo is facing a severe energy crisis, while electricity imports alone cost around 27 million euros in September, said Alliance chairman Ardian Gjini. He warned that import costs could reach at least two million euros per day and blamed the government for failing to repair the boiler in one of the generating units.
Gjini said that citizens bear this cost directly, through their electricity bills or expenses covered by the state budget. According to him, the budget is also funded by citizens’ taxes, regardless of how public payments are presented.

At a press conference, he described the energy situation as a collapse and said that high-priced imports are placing a burden on citizens. Gjini added that the issue concerns not only energy, but also the economy and other areas of life in Kosovo.
According to the figures he presented, electricity production stood at around 372 megawatts at the time of the conference, while demand had exceeded 800 megawatts. He assessed this as relatively low demand that could increase further, causing daily imports to cost at least two million euros.
Gjini announced that the Alliance will request an interpellation in the Assembly of Kosovo next week on this issue.
He accused the government of deliberately sabotaging the tender for the repair of the boiler. According to Gjini, the procedure was opened and then closed without a winner being announced, while the bid prices were made public; he described this as a major corruption scandal. Gjini also said that there had been complaints and that the boiler had still not been repaired, even though the repairs were supposed to be completed by the end of this year.
He also mentioned the companies licensed to transmit electricity, claiming that the same companies are linked to other fraud cases, which, according to him, have been reported by the media and discussed by the Alliance for some time. Gjini recalled that Kurti had spoken in the Assembly about boilers and filters around three years ago.
Gjini warned that the country’s largest generating unit could be taken offline again in December, January or February to repair the boiler. He linked this to Kurti’s previous statements about the boiler and accused him of leading the biggest fraud in Kosovo’s history.
