North Macedonia’s Assembly Speaker, Afrim Gashi, announced that he had signed the decision to organize snap elections for mayor of the Municipality of Brvenica.

Gashi announced that the decision was signed today, in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Code and the legislation in force, while the elections will be held on October 18, 2026.
He called on the State Election Commission, the Brvenica Municipal Election Commission and all institutions involved in implementing the decision to conduct the electoral process professionally and impartially, with full respect for the law and procedures.
Gashi urged the candidates and political entities to conduct a dignified campaign, competing through programs, ideas and a vision for the municipality’s development, rather than through divisive rhetoric or actions that undermine citizens’ trust in the democratic process.
At the same time, he invited the citizens of Brvenica to turn out to vote and responsibly exercise their democratic right. According to him, their participation will help ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible process, through which the municipality’s future direction will be determined.
Gashi’s statement also said that he was convinced these elections would demonstrate the democratic maturity of our institutions and citizens. /Telegrafi/
