Publicist and activist Gani Mehmetaj has revealed in a Facebook post a shocking episode from the past, in which Baton Haxhiu called for the murder of him and his brother, Ali Mehmetaj.
According to him, this call came during an extremely dark period, when several journalists and over 200 activists of the Democratic League of Kosovo lost their lives.

Mehmetaj emphasizes that he would not even recall Haxhiu’s figure at all, had the latter not appeared today with an even more defiant stance on Albanian television screens.
In his full post, he recounts: “Twenty-five years ago, Baton Haxhiu publicly called for me and my brother Ali (now deceased) to be gotten rid of. Those were days when the darkness of night was the same as the uncertain morning. At that time, several fellow journalists were executed, along with over 200 LDK members. I escaped from Baton Haxhiu’s armed men.”
He adds that his public intervention today has a specific reason: “I would not bother with a tainted individual who once collaborated with the Serbian regime, if he had not turned into a praised figure in Prishtina by certain political factions and in Tirana by Edi Rama and Vučić’s services.”
Mehmetaj states that his silence would have continued, but Haxhiu’s tone on Albanian televisions has become even more arrogant and brazen. “In those studios, he buys airtime, recruits mercenaries with dubious funding, and imposes a narrative, despite having only elementary knowledge,” he concludes.
