At the end of June, the Municipality of Durrës inaugurated the city’s first public beach, where holidaymakers can use umbrellas and sun loungers free of charge. The initiative has been well received by citizens, especially older people who for years have chosen the sandy area along the “Taulantia” promenade as their holiday destination.

The area is frequented by both residents of Durrës and foreign tourists. Visitors consider the free umbrellas and sun loungers a positive development, but are calling for greater cleanliness and basic services to make the beach more functional and attractive during the tourist season.
Alongside their positive impressions, local holidaymakers point to the lack of rubbish bins, showers and public toilets, as well as hygiene problems. According to them, such facilities and services are necessary at a public beach intended for citizens and tourists.
One of the holidaymakers says the water is clean, while the condition of the surrounding environment suggests otherwise. He says municipal workers are not taking care of the area and that regular cleaning would significantly improve the situation.
A woman from Italy greatly appreciates the public beach and the opportunity to use the sun loungers free of charge. However, she says that dirt remains a concern and calls for cleaning services to be carried out more frequently.
Another citizen notes that, despite the current conditions, the beach cannot be fully suitable without showers and toilets. According to him, these services also directly contribute to maintaining cleanliness. He describes the installation of umbrellas as a positive development, but stresses that further improvements are still needed.
