France deploys 70,000 police for Saturday’s protests and warns of penalties for violence

French authorities will deploy around 70,000 police officers across the country for protests planned for Saturday, October 31, to maintain order and security.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced the measure on Thursday and said any acts of violence would be met with severe measures, both during the demonstrations and after they end.

Nuñez said far-left groups had used social media to call for violent gatherings, raising fears of an escalation.

To prevent clashes and ensure public order, authorities have stepped up security measures in French cities.
