Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha condemned the decision by the Hague court, which found the former KLA leaders guilty and sentenced them to a total of 81 years in prison.

At the beginning of his address to the Parliamentary Group, Berisha said, “the aim of the KLA and its leaders was to liberate Kosovo.”

Berisha expressed his belief that the Appeals Court would deliver justice and break away from Serbian propaganda. The DP chairman also called on Albanians wherever they may be to remain calm and exercise restraint.

“Let us express our hope and belief that the Appeals Court will deliver justice and break away from Serbian propaganda, and let us condemn in the strongest terms the interference by Belgrade and others that has taken place in this court,” the DP chairman said.

Berisha went on to say that the sentences were entirely undeserved and that the former KLA leaders should have been acquitted.

“Of course, there are celebrations in Serbia, in Belgrade, over these unjust sentences. But nothing can overshadow the Kosovo people’s liberation war, which they led as the brightest chapter in the wars waged by Albanians for freedom and national dignity since the wars of Skanderbeg.

The Kosovo Liberation Army fought a war through which, together and with NATO’s support, and as NATO’s ally on the ground, it liberated the last colony in Europe, Kosovo, from barbaric Serbian occupation,” the DP chairman said.
