Kurti Expresses Confidence That Former KLA Leaders Are Innocent

Following his meeting with Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) leader Lumir Abdixhiku, Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti commented on the trial of former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

Kurti said he believes in their innocence and expressed hope that they will return to a free Kosovo. According to him, this is the main issue, while the expectation is for the best possible outcome.

Speaking about the KLA, he described the liberation war of the people of Kosovo, organized and led by the Kosovo Liberation Army, as just, liberating and anti-colonialist, waged against the centuries-old Serbian occupier.

The acting prime minister stressed that no judicial process, whether at home or abroad, can tarnish the KLA.

The ruling by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague in the case against the former KLA leaders is expected to be made public on September 16, 2026.

Kurti also clarified that the trial in The Hague is unrelated to political talks on electing the president.

He said negotiations with the Democratic League of Kosovo on a male or female presidential candidate constitute a separate process that is political in nature and not a matter of justice.
