Ajet Llanaj, one of the affected residents, said he had traveled from Vlora and arrived in the area at around 2:30 p.m. Together with other residents, he joined efforts to prevent the fire from spreading.
“When I arrived, the fire brigade was there as well. My brothers, the others and I began trying to put out the fire,” Llanaj said.
According to him, the most serious damage was recorded in the beekeeping sector, where the flames engulfed more than 50 beehives.
“The beehives—more than 50 of them—were burned. This is a massive loss,” the resident said.
The prefect of the county, Evis Alushi, was also at the scene. She announced that a working group would be established to fully document the consequences of the fire.
The prefect also said that once the assessment of the damage is completed, the possibility of compensating the affected residents would be considered.
