A troublesome fire broke out in Gjirokastër around midday this Wednesday, in the Gërhot area. Initially, the flames engulfed an area of shrubs near the entrance to the city.
Favored by the dry terrain, the flames spread across a considerable area near the residential zone. The intervention of the Fire Service was needed to bring the blaze under control and extinguish it.

According to suspicions, the cause of the fire may have been cigarette butts carelessly thrown in this area. During these days of high temperatures, several major fires have been recorded in forest and pasture areas in Gjirokastër, while an appeal is being made to avoid deliberate fire-setting.
