Fire Engulfs Mallakastër / Several Families Evacuated in Koilac as Flames Approach Homes

A major fire has engulfed the Mallakastër area, spreading rapidly through the village of Koilac and threatening homes. In response to the danger, police services have organized the evacuation of several families from the exposed areas. Personnel from the Mallakastër Police Station, services from the Fier Local Police Directorate, firefighting forces, the National Security Forces, civil emergency structures and other teams involved in managing the situation are taking part in the operation.

Strong winds are aiding the advance of the flames toward populated areas. At this stage, the fire has damaged considerable areas of vegetation, while the threat to homes and property remains high. The fire fronts are spreading toward Hekal, Panahor, Riban and Ngraçan, while teams on the ground are working to contain and extinguish them.

Police forces are monitoring the situation to ensure residents’ safety and carry out further evacuations if necessary, in coordination with the emergency structures. At the same time, the investigative team, under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, has begun checks to determine the cause of the fire and document the circumstances of the incident. One of the possibilities being examined is that the fire may have been deliberately started illegally.

The authorities are urging citizens not to light fires to burn plant waste or for other reasons, as the flames can get out of control and endanger lives, property and the environment. Any case of arson or other unlawful activity should be reported by calling 112.
