Doctor Ermal Pasha has denounced the way 28-year-old Erjon Vishkulli was treated after being injured during the October 24 protest in Tirana. The young man was struck in the eye by a rubber bullet and, as a result, risks losing his sight. In an interview with News24, Pasha said he had tried to provide first aid but had been prevented from approaching, even though he had identified himself as a doctor. He also raised questions about the injured man’s transport, claiming that Vishkulli was initially placed in a police ambulance and then removed from it.
Pasha said he had seen the young man lying on the other side of the Lana River, with several people around him. At first, he thought it was a case of gas-induced asphyxia, but when he realized the situation was continuing, he tried to go over to him.

“There was a moment when I saw a person on the other side of the Lana, lying down with several people gathered around him. I thought it was a case of gas-induced asphyxia. When I saw that the situation was continuing, I tried to run toward him, but they did not let me. I was alone. I took off my mask and glasses and introduced myself so they would recognize me. I wanted to help him, but I was prevented,” he said.
The doctor called on the authorities to explain why the injured man was removed from the vehicle in which he had initially been placed and who made that decision.
“How is it possible that he got into the police ambulance and was later taken out? Who gave the order? He was taken by an ambulance that was stationed among the police ranks, an SUV converted into an ambulance, one of those that also transported tear gas,” the doctor said.
