During the night of August 16-17, 2026, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., the Department for Traffic Affairs at the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out a nationwide enforcement operation aimed at penalizing drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a total of 63 drivers were penalized during the checks. Of these, 12 were recorded in the Bitola area, while nine drivers each were penalized in the Veles and Ohrid areas. Eight cases were recorded in the Kumanovo area.
Of the total number of drivers stopped, eight were detained in accordance with Article 297 of the Criminal Code. In addition to driving under the influence of alcohol, another 162 traffic violations were identified and penalized during the operation.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that traffic checks will continue in the coming days with the aim of improving road safety and preventing accidents.
