DUI Responds to City of Skopje: Signs Corrected, but Albanian Still Missing

DUI has responded following the City of Skopje’s changes to the signs installed at the entrances to the capital, pointing out that even after the corrections, the Albanian language has not been included.

In its response, DUI said the replacement of the images following public objections proves that the city authorities could have acted immediately. However, according to the party, Albanian remains excluded from the corrected version of the signs.

DUI claims that the absence of the Albanian language is the result of a deliberate decision to disregard both Albanian and Skopje’s multiethnic character. The party described its exclusion from official signage in a bilingual city as a legal violation and a serious political and institutional provocation.

The party is demanding that the signs be corrected without delay and that Albanian be added to them, in accordance with the law and the reality of Skopje.

At the same time, DUI warned that if the law is not enforced, it will use all legal, institutional and democratic means to defend the Albanian language and the dignity of Albanians.

According to DUI’s response, the political responsibility for the continuation of this pattern of disregarding Albanians lies with VLEN. The party accuses the coalition of creating the impression, through its subservience, that the interests and rights of Albanians can be violated without consequences.
