The protesters say that during this period they have faced attempts to drive them away from the gatherings. According to them, local government representatives intervened initially, while political delegates later also tried to persuade them not to take part in the protest.
Despite these pressures, the residents have continued their resistance and marches through the city’s streets. They are calling on the institutions to take the residents’ views into consideration and not proceed with the administrative merger with Lushnja.
“This is not a time when there is no state to give its word, but there are institutions that must answer to the citizens for this betrayal of Divjaka,” the protesters said.
After the gathering ended, the residents marched through the city’s streets, repeating chants in defense of Divjaka as a municipality. “Divjaka municipality!” and “Divjaka belongs to its citizens, not to those in power!” were among the slogans shouted during the protest.
