The court hearing against acting Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla is expected to take place at 9:00 a.m. at the Palace of Justice in Pristina. The proceedings concern the charge of “Use of a weapon or dangerous instrument.”

The incident for which Sveçla is accused took place on March 21, 2018, during the consideration by the Kosovo Assembly of the ratification of the Border Demarcation Agreement with Montenegro. Tear gas was released inside the chamber during that session, leading to the proceedings being suspended and the lawmakers leaving.
On September 2, 2026, the Basic Court in Pristina found Xhelal Sveçla guilty of the criminal offense of “Use of a weapon or dangerous instrument.”
According to Judge Sabit Sadikaj’s finding, Sveçla activated and threw the tear gas canister inside the Assembly chamber, making it impossible for the session to continue.
He was also charged with “Obstructing an official person in the performance of official duties.” For this offense, the court issued a dismissal ruling because the criminal prosecution was time-barred.
