Amarilda Shabani, head of the Border Police Station in Triport, said that 32 vessels were impounded in July for failing to comply with regulations, while an equal number of administrative penalties were issued.
The checks were carried out mainly in the Bay of Vlora and near Haxhi Ali Cave. In addition to the inspections, officers also conducted awareness campaigns, urging vessel operators to wear life jackets and comply with safety measures.
Shabani warned that serious violations would be punished with zero tolerance. In July alone, two such cases were identified, resulting in fines of 500,000 new lek each, in accordance with maritime legislation.
