Criminal group that distributed drugs near schools in Tirana dismantled, 14 people in handcuffs

Tirana Police have concluded the coded operation “Segmenti,” launched to crack down on a structured criminal group suspected of distributing narcotics in various areas of the capital, mainly near nine-year and secondary schools.

As a result of this operation, the security measures of “arrest in prison” were carried out for 14 citizens and “house arrest” for 1 female citizen, suspected of being members of this group. Meanwhile, 5 other people have been declared wanted, and work continues to locate and apprehend them.

According to Tirana Police, the investigation so far has documented that members of this group cooperated with one another in distributing narcotics in several areas of the city, focusing in particular near educational institutions.

As part of the investigation and searches carried out, the blue uniforms also arrested a citizen caught in flagrante with a pistol and ammunition. Illegal gambling premises adapted for organizing unlawful games of chance were also discovered.

During the searches, police seized 220 grams of suspected cocaine, hundreds of doses of cannabis sativa prepared for sale, one pistol, two poker tables, tokens and chips for games of chance, as well as 2,300,000 new lek, which are suspected to have been obtained from the illegal activity.

Operation “Segmenti” is the result of a lengthy investigation, while in its earlier stages other police actions were also carried out, in which 7 citizens were arrested and considerable quantities of narcotics were seized.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecution for further action.
