The prison is located in Mazatlan, a tourist city where violent clashes between criminal groups have become a recurring event.
Military forces and police intervened at the prison again, while the Sinaloa State Security Secretariat announced that the situation was now under control.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what caused the latest clash.
Two days earlier, a gunfight at the same prison claimed the lives of nine inmates and a visitor, who was a child. The motives behind that incident also remain unclear.
Sinaloa’s state detention centers hold many members of the Sinaloa cartel, which since 2024 has been involved in a fierce internal conflict that has claimed more than 1,000 lives.
The incident marks the third event of this kind in Sinaloa’s prisons this year. On May 31, seven inmates were killed at a prison in Culiacan, the state capital.
