Clash in Parliament between Balla and Kapri: From accusations of the ‘100,000-euro bag’ to messages about protecting votes

Despite the absence of Democratic Party lawmakers, today’s parliamentary session was marked by sharp debate. At the center of attention was the clash between the head of the Socialist Party (SP) group, Taulant Balla, and the representative of the Opportunity Party, Erald Kapri.

Kapri launched his attack by mocking the socialist majority. He said the majority has turned into a show where it speaks, votes, and applauds alone. While seeking the right to speak, he accused Balla that his criticisms of Agron Shehaj had taken the form of a personal phobia. According to him, the majority is not familiar with the figure of an entrepreneur who creates jobs and pays millions of euros in taxes, but is used to other models. In this context, he mentioned a sensational wiretap where a voice claimed to be Taulant Balla and asked for 100,000 euros, adding that the businessman who received the message handed over the amount believing he was actually talking to the MP. Kapri concluded his intervention by alluding to gambling and warning that citizens out on the streets would no longer tolerate this situation.

Taulant Balla’s reaction was immediate and forceful. He addressed Kapri with irony, calling him “Gone” and describing him as the only MP accompanied by a personal assistant in the chamber. Balla then shifted to a concrete accusation, claiming that during the vote counting process, Kapri had pleaded with Socialist commissioners to protect the votes of the Opportunity Party from what he feared would be an attempt by the PD to steal them. According to Balla, Kapri’s victory was secured precisely by the Socialist Party’s counters.

The head of the SP group took the opportunity to propose that political parties no longer be involved in the vote counting process. Continuing with a barbed tone, he drew a figurative comparison between Kapri and a fly on the back of a white horse, emphasizing that he respects the horse, but not the fly. Finally, Balla dismissed any concerns about private meetings among colleagues and the moderate consumption of beer while watching football, calling the fuss about card games hypocrisy. He even hinted that he had compromising photos of Kapri at the game table, but chose not to make them public.
