People who lack no more than 24 months to meet the minimum legal condition of 15 years of work history can secure the right to a pension by buying these years themselves. The Minister of Social Policy, Demography and Youth, Gjoko Vellkovski, announced that this possibility is currently being considered by the Government. According to the proposal, the measure will apply to citizens who are no longer insured, have reached the age of 62 for women and 64 for men, and have at least 13 years of work history.

“The purchase of work history applies and will apply only to those who are no longer insured, have reached 62-64 years, meaning men and women, and those who have up to 13 years of work history, which they had at the moment they reached retirement age, will have the right to buy 24 months of their work history, that is, to pay for it,” said Vellkovski.
The amount to be paid will be determined through a special formula, which still needs to be drafted. The minister clarified that the calculation basis will not be the full average salary, but 50 percent of it, according to the value recorded during the previous year.
“It will be 50 percent of the average salary from the previous year, that is, from the year in which it occurred, specifically in this case from the year 2025. So, the contribution will be paid on that salary. Approximately, I won’t talk about figures now, however depending on how many months each person has left to retire, there will be a certain amount that the citizens themselves must pay, and then they will receive the pension calculated with all the parameters in accordance with the law,” stated Vellkovski.
Referring to available data, the average salary last year was approximately 45,500 denars. If the contribution of 19.9 percent is applied to half of this salary, the basis would be about 22,750 denars. According to TV21’s calculation, the monthly payment would amount to around 4,500 denars, while for 12 months it would be about 54,000 denars. In case 24 months of work history are required and the average salary does not change, the citizen would pay a total of about 108,000 denars, or approximately 1,750 euros, to obtain the right to a pension./TV21/
