Shpataraku was arrested on August 26 in the Plepa area of Durrës after he was caught driving the vehicle in which Ergys Agasi, who is wanted by the justice authorities, was traveling. The former police official is now accused of the criminal offense of “Aiding the perpetrator of a crime.”
He was dismissed from the State Police several weeks ago, after which procedures were launched to revoke the gun permit he held because of his position.
During the proceedings, the authorities discovered that the former official, known as the right-hand man of former police chief Ilir Proda, was also keeping an arsenal of weapons at his home, all of which he appears to have legally possessed.
The weapons consisted of 3 pistols, 2 shotguns and 2 rifles, which have now been seized by the authorities.
According to journalist Xhensila Kodra, it remains to be seen whether SPAK will investigate Shpataraku as part of the criminal group led by his “boss,” Ergys Agasi, who was arrested during an operation coordinated between the BKH and the State Police.
There are also indications that Shpataraku had a criminal record abroad in the past, which he failed to declare and which requires an in-depth investigation by the authorities.
