Berisha: The government seeks to restrict freedom on the internet, we will request an investigative committee

The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, responded to the statement by the director of the State Police, Skënder Hitaj, accusing the executive of trying to bring citizens’ activity on social media under control.

He described the stance of the head of the State Police as a violation of freedom of expression and said this initiative is linked to the recent protests against the government.

According to Berisha, this amounts to a kind of “digital policing” of citizens. The PD leader announced that the opposition will seek the establishment of a parliamentary investigative committee to examine this issue.

Berisha accused the government of trying to limit freedom of expression in the online space, describing this approach as “another step toward the ayatollahs.”
