A 37-year-old woman from Austria was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark near Bimini Island in the Bahamas.

The incident occurred while the tourist was taking part in an excursion to swim with dolphins. At the time of the attack, she was approximately 5.6 kilometers from shore.
The attack caused serious injuries to her right ankle. Following the incident, the 37-year-old was taken to Bimini Community Clinic, where she arrived shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
After assessing her condition, doctors determined that specialized treatment was necessary. The woman was therefore flown by helicopter to New Providence, the most populous island in the Bahamas.
Authorities have yet to determine the type of shark that attacked the tourist and have not provided further information about the full circumstances of the incident.
