The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University admissions announcement stipulates that 4,395 of the available places are for full-time students under the state-funded quota, whose studies are financed by the state budget. Another 3,621 places are available for full-time students who co-finance their studies by paying tuition fees, while 835 places are reserved for part-time students.
The largest capacities, with more than 500 students across various study programs, are offered by the Faculty of Medicine, with 950 places; FSHKIK, with 800; FETI and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, with 600 each; the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, with 626; the Faculty of Economics, with 655; the Faculty of Law, with 555; the Faculty of Philosophy, with 635; and the Faculty of Philology, with 805 places.
For students enrolled under the state-funded quota, the tuition fee is 200 euros in denar equivalent. Meanwhile, students under the co-financing quota and part-time students must pay tuition fees of 400 euros.
In an interview with AIM, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska said that the number of places at all universities has been reduced by around 2,000 this year. According to her, the decision followed an analysis of the labor market, which showed that some professions have a surplus of qualified personnel and high unemployment, while employment in other professions is very high and shortages are evident.
Janevska said that, based on these data, quotas were reduced proportionally and by percentage at all universities. She emphasized that although quotas were also lowered last year, she expects some places to remain unfilled again this year. This is because universities and faculties announce quotas in line with the accreditations they have received, which provide for high numbers, while at some faculties a portion of the available places consistently remains unfilled.
The minister said she was firmly convinced that, despite the reduction of around 2,000 places across all universities, every student would be able to find a place in their preferred field of study. According to her, the largest reductions were made in business administration and public administration programs, in some programs at the faculties of Economics and Law, as well as in medical programs, because these fields have a higher number of unemployed people.
On the other hand, quotas for technical programs, computer science, mechanical engineering and construction have remained almost unchanged. Janevska explained that employability in these fields is excellent and, in some cases, reaches as high as 98-99 percent.
After the first application period for studies at USHCM closes today and tomorrow, the final ranking list will be published on August 27. Successful candidates will enroll on September 3 and 4.
