Andy Burnham has been officially appointed as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, following an audience with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.

During the meeting at the royal residence, the monarch formally asked Burnham to form a new government, an invitation he immediately accepted.
According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, after assuming the posts of Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, Burnham also performed the traditional rite of swearing allegiance to the sovereign.
In this official ceremony, he was accompanied by his wife, Marie-France van Heel.
Burnham’s arrival at the head of government follows the resignation of Keir Starmer, who left Downing Street expressing gratitude to his team and emphasizing that he felt proud of his term’s achievements.
Upon taking office, Andy Burnham begins work on forming the new British government cabinet.
