Just days before elections are held in Serbia, Belgrade’s efforts to extend the campaign and electoral process to Kosovo have revived discussions about Serbia’s claims over the independent state.
Addressing the UN Security Council, Glauk Konjufca stated that Kosovo would not allow Serbian elections to be organized on its territory. According to analysts, the issue of Kosovo’s sovereignty is final and cannot be negotiated.

“The Republic of Kosovo has its own Constitution and its own legal framework governing the organization of elections and the exercise of public authority within its territory. If Serbia wants to organize elections in Kosovo by violating, undermining and humiliating our state, I am sorry, but we will not allow it,” Konjufca said.
A similar electoral rally had been held several days earlier, but it was interrupted by the Kosovo Police at the Technical School, where more than 200 people had gathered.
The police said that Serbian List MPs were also participating in the event, including Igor Simiq and the party official Ivan Zaporozhac, who are directly linked to Serbia’s former president, Vucic.
Local analysts and professors assess that Serbia cannot in any way exercise its electoral authority on the territory of another state. They consider Kosovo’s sovereignty a settled issue.
“It has already been settled; it has been decided. Serbia cannot hold elections in Kosovo. Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state and, naturally, there are other mechanisms and procedures through which this right can be exercised by those who hold dual citizenship. This is an issue that has already been settled and established,” said Dorajet Imeri, an analyst and professor of geopolitics.
Imeri emphasizes that, despite the nationalist messages conveyed during the campaign, Kosovo’s right to decide on the organization of elections on its territory, as well as the country’s sovereignty, remain non-negotiable.
