Aliaj on student protests in France: The situation is more dangerous and more miserable than under communism

Artist Robert Aliaj, a guest on Erla Mëhilli’s “Now” program on Euronews Albania, commented on the student protests in France. He said the movement could grow larger if it gains new support, or it could fade away if the protesters give up out of exhaustion. According to Aliaj, it is also troubling that young people are not being supported by their parents, who have not joined the protests.

“What is taking place there is, so to speak, a kind of covert civil war in Albania. The part that has been stripped bare is facing total disregard. Even the looters are using sophisticated and highly cunning methods to drag out the situation until people become exhausted. Now they will either wait for the protesters to give up, or they will receive the support of many others, which I do not see happening,” he said.

Aliaj described the lack of parental support for their children as unprecedented. “I have never seen, heard of or read about a people that does not support its own children. I do not understand how my child could be there while I slept peacefully. It is absolutely scandalous to have your child at a protest and not guarantee them anything for the future. Go and give your life. What kind of worthless people are these? What kind of parents are we to demand luxury? Peacefully, you have been completely ignored,” the artist declared.
