During the meeting, Kurti expressed his gratitude for the support Sweden has provided to Kosovo both before and after its declaration of independence.

“As a friendly country and one of our five largest donors, Sweden became home to many Albanian families from Kosovo,” Kurti said, also recalling that Sweden sheltered a large number of Trepça miners after the 1989 strike.

He also highlighted the engagement of thousands of Swedish soldiers in the KFOR mission, the prime minister’s office said, while the news was reported by KosovaPress.

According to the statement, the discussion focused on opportunities to expand cooperation in the economy, trade, energy and defense. Political and regional developments were also reviewed at the meeting.

Kurti said he had also met Ambassador Pehrson 20 years ago in Stockholm.
