A serious accident occurred in Peru, killing 13 people after a passenger van collided with a stationary truck on a road in the Cusco region of southeastern Peru.

The accident occurred on the outskirts of Polpata when a passenger van traveling between the cities of Chalhuahuacho and Arequipa collided with a truck that had stopped on the road, Cusco police chief Carlos Guisado said.
Media reports say that children are among the victims. According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the van driver failed to notice the truck in time. It had stopped because of a mechanical failure, resulting in a severe collision.
