“Albanians have always demonstrated respect and support for the identity, language and dignity of their Macedonian fellow citizens, even when this position was not reciprocated. We have never questioned their identity, while the Constitution still defines us through the disparaging wording ‘20 percent,’” the AA said in its response.

According to the party, Albanians make up almost one-third of the population and cannot be treated as foreigners in the state where they live.

“We are not guests in this state, and we will not allow anyone’s political calculations to hold our future hostage,” the Alliance for Albanians said.

The party is calling for the implementation of the obligations established in 2022, regardless of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s position. “An agreement is an agreement. The obligations from 2022 must be fulfilled, whether Mickoski likes it or not. Uncertainty regarding Bulgaria’s hypothetical conditions cannot be used as a reason to obstruct the European path,” the AA said.

The AA emphasizes that Mickoski had more room for maneuver in 2024 than in 2026, while if this approach continues, he could be in an even weaker position in 2028.

“Time is showing that delaying the process increases the cost for all citizens, regardless of ethnic affiliation. Young people are leaving, families are moving away, and politicians continue to buy time. Gruevski took a decade from us. Albanians will not wait another ten years for Mickoski,” the response said./Telegrafi/
