A step toward unlimited power” – Muçollari: Rama is advancing toward the Dutch architect’s dream

A member of the Democratic Party’s leadership, Grigels Muçollari, has accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of tightening his grip on power by attacking institutions and the opposition.

In a social media statement, Muçollari linked the latest move against the judiciary to the vision of a Dutch architect who, he said, wanted an Albania without elections or political rotation, with Rama at the head of the country.

He cited clashes with the justice system, the McGonigal case and the dispute over the leadership of the Democratic Party, claiming that the prime minister is trying to remove every obstacle that could limit his power.

With his latest decision, which left the entire judicial system without pay and failed to implement the Constitutional Court’s ruling, Edi Rama, according to Muçollari, took another step toward the Dutch architect’s dream.

In the book “Albanian Files,” which also has a foreword by the prime minister, the architect said that he would not want elections, political rotation or anything else in Albania besides Edi Rama in power. According to him, Rama should gain eternal power and become king.

Muçollari describes this as the desire of a person living in a democratic state, where elections and referendums are held and no one can have eternal power or authority over others.

Although such an aim may seem impossible, Muçollari claims that Edi Rama has used every means available to bring its realization closer, by attacking, abusing or eliminating the obstacles standing in the way of total and long-lasting power.

According to him, the first step was a plan to eliminate the opposition and the Democratic Party. Muçollari cites the McGonigal conspiracy, which, he says, prompted illegal investigations into the Democratic Party through fabricated allegations of Russian funding. He adds that McGonigal was paid for this and is now in prison.

Then, the statement continues, Rama worked to have Sali Berisha declared persona non grata and also took the Democratic Party’s seal and logo. Muçollari argues that these actions were aimed at destroying the opposition.

Another obstacle for the prime minister, he says, is the justice system. Although Rama exercises control and dictates over parts of it, Muçollari says there is still a possibility that the judiciary could become a source of concern and a threat to his power. In this context, he also mentions Balluku’s swift fate, describing her as the prime minister’s closest associate.

By withholding salaries and declaring the Constitutional Court’s decision invalid, Rama has, according to Muçollari, struck at a branch of power that is theoretically independent and could challenge him.

Parliament, he continues, is not a concern for the prime minister, while from the very first day he turned the president of the Republic into a secretary who signs his decrees.

Muçollari says these developments are bringing the country closer to fulfilling the Dutch architect’s dream. However, he stresses that the justice system has reacted, the opposition has not been brought down and remains on the front line, while citizens have taken to the streets.

According to him, these factors continue to keep the goal of unlimited and eternal power out of reach.
