A powerful seismic tremor with a magnitude of 5.7 was recorded on Sunday evening in the Huánuco department, located in central Peru, according to data from the country’s Geophysical Institute.

The tectonic activity was recorded at 20:42 local time, with the epicenter 53 kilometers northeast of the city of Aucayacu, in the province of Leoncio Prado. As for depth, the hypocenter was located 153 kilometers below the surface.
Through the National Emergency Operations Center, the National Institute of Civil Protection reported that the tremor was felt by residents with an intensity ranging from low to moderate.
In a statement shared on the social network X, authorities emphasized: “So far, there are no reports of casualties or infrastructure damage. We are continuing monitoring in the most at-risk regions.”
