43 days of civic resistance in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, the protest continues with unchanged demands

For the forty-third consecutive day, citizens gathered on the boulevard opposite the government building are continuing their opposition to the Rama executive and the initiative in Zvërnec. Hundreds of people have once again taken to the square to express their discontent.

The rally organizers have confirmed that the movement will not stop in the coming weeks, insisting on the fulfillment of all points of their agenda. At the top of the list stands, without any wavering, the removal of the head of government, Edi Rama, and the radical transformation of how the political elite operates in the country.

The five-point platform put forward by the citizens includes, first, the immediate resignation of the prime minister and the entire government cabinet – a condition that for them is non-negotiable. Second, they demand the formation of a transitional technical government, which must be completely detached from political parties and function for a limited 12-month mandate.

An important part of the package of proposals are also constitutional changes to ensure the balance of everyone before the law and to completely reshape the political system, a process which according to them must then go to a referendum with broad popular participation. In this framework fall the revision of the Electoral Code, the way parties are financed, and the setting of term limits for the head of the executive. At the same time, the protesters demand the annulment of the recent legal changes for protected areas and cultural heritage, the repeal of what they know as the Mountain Package, and a full analysis of the legal framework on strategic investments, declaring these changes unacceptable. In closing their platform, they propose drafting a new social contract between the state and citizens built after a broad consultation process with specialists, academics, and politically unaffiliated citizens.

The participants have warned that their civil action will extend over time, while tonight’s offensive march towards the Prime Minister’s Office is expected to constitute the climax of the mobilization.
