According to Nepal’s disaster management agency, 2,500 people are still listed as missing. Search-and-rescue operations are continuing in the hardest-hit areas.

Sudden floods, along with powerful torrents of water and mud, have caused extensive damage in several parts of Nepal and in the region near the border with Tibet. Entire villages have been inundated, while roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been destroyed or severely damaged.

Difficult conditions on the ground are complicating the work of rescue teams. The weather and damaged infrastructure are also hindering efforts to reach those reported missing.

Authorities are continuing the search and the process of identifying the victims, meaning the death toll could change further. At this stage, the total number of deaths in Nepal and Tibet has surpassed 633.
