Speaking on “News24,” Democratic Party MP Klevis Balliu discussed the arrest of Ergys Agasi and said that the opposition had been denouncing his role alongside Prime Minister Edi Rama for more than four years.

According to Balliu, Agasi’s detention represents an important development, but is not enough to dismantle the entire mechanism through which, he claimed, the state has been captured. He described the incident as an individual blow against the businessman.
The Democratic MP said that Agasi had influence over appointments and important institutions, while describing him as Edi Rama’s direct representative in dealings with organized crime and state structures. “For more than four years, we have been denouncing Ergys Agasi by name for the role assigned to him by Edi Rama. He himself is insignificant, but the phenomenon surrounding him raises questions. Ergys Agasi had the power to run the National Agency of Information Society, the State Police, and appoint the police directorate because he directly represented Edi Rama in dealings with organized crime, as well as in state institutions. He was known as Edi Rama’s gray eminence,” Balliu said.
Balliu also mentioned Agasi’s ties to police officials and drew attention to the luxury watch he was wearing at the time of his arrest. “Ergys Agasi appointed Ilir Proda as police director, while Agasi was caught with Ulian Shpataraku, who is Proda’s right-hand man. The wristwatch Agasi was wearing when he was arrested alone was worth more than 350,000 euros. That is how much an apartment in Tirana costs, and they cannot afford to buy even those, whereas Ergys Agasi was wearing the price of a young couple’s apartment on his wrist today. This is where the outrageous wealth they have amassed at the expense of Albanians is proven,” Klevis Balliu concluded.
