A rescue operation on Greece’s Mount Olympus ended in tragedy after a 40-year-old climber was found dead in a difficult and dangerous area.

The alarm was raised at around 13:20, when authorities were notified that the climber had fallen on a steep section of the mountain. According to reports, he fell into a deep ravine while descending, in an area between “Louki Mytikas” and “Kakoskala.”
The 2nd and 8th EMAK units were mobilized to locate and recover him, while other rescue teams also took part in the operation. The difficult and dangerous terrain made the intervention more challenging.
The 40-year-old was found unconscious, and the rescue teams determined that he had died. The exact circumstances of his fall into the ravine have yet to be determined.
