At least 100 people have lost their lives following a landslide at an improvised gold mine in the western part of the Central African Republic, near the border with Cameroon.

The tragedy occurred yesterday, Tuesday, at around 2:00 p.m. local time, or 5:00 p.m. Greek time. The mine is located in Zaboye, approximately 50 kilometers from the town of Bamboua. Meanwhile, search-and-rescue teams continue to work at the site.
Initial reports from the German news agency spoke of 33 people dead. According to those reports, the accident had occurred in the border town of Garoua-Boulaï, in Cameroon, near the border with the Central African Republic.
