Hamas announced on Sunday that it had asked the Peace Council to compel Israel to accept the Gaza peace plan, according to a statement from the Palestinian Islamist movement, following a meeting its leaders held in Egypt with U.S. envoy Jared Kushner.

Hamas “called on the mediators and the Peace Council to assume their responsibilities and compel the occupier (…) to approve the plan for the second phase of President Trump’s plan and begin drawing up a timeline for its implementation,” the statement said.
Kushner is expected to travel to Israel, while reports indicate that he will meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Israel has opposed Trump’s plan for Gaza.
Hamas approved the 15-point U.S. plan at the end of July, which aims to launch the “second phase of the Trump plan” for Gaza and calls for Hamas to disarm and Israeli forces to withdraw from the Palestinian enclave.
