The incident was recorded near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a corridor of particular importance for international maritime transport. So far, it has not been clarified who shot the sailors or who was behind the attack.
The information was made public by the British maritime security company Vanguard, following initial data reported by UKMTO, the organization that monitors the movements and incidents involving commercial vessels in the area.
Reuters reports that authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident, while there is still no final confirmation regarding those responsible.
If the attack is confirmed to have been carried out by Houthi rebels, the two sailors will be the first recorded victims of their attacks in this strait.
